Paint

How to Paint your concrete product.

The following is not intended to be a step by step painting guide but just to give you some basic information about painting concrete statuary.
Our concrete is hand finished giving it a smoother appearance with fewer pin-holes than ordinary un-grouted statuary. Many people prefer the elegant appearance of the natural stone look.
Painted statuary adds color and appeal for many items, which many people prefer, but it does not add to the integrity of the concrete. It is entirely a matter of your preference.

If you decide to paint your own it isn’t very difficult to do. Just be sure the statuary is at room temperature. Not too hot, nor too cold. It must be very clean and dry before you begin. Two base coats of a good quality exterior latex house paint works best, letting it dry between layers.
After the paint has dried thoroughly you can begin to paint your colors. A latex exterior enamel or almost any combination of acrylic and latex, or acrylic alone. Most artist acrylics and acrylics used for painting ceramics will give satisfactory results.
Remember, brighter colors, “especially red”, will fade more quickly in sunlight. It has been our experience that oil based or lacquer paints didn’t give us the durability we were looking for.
There are no hard and fast rules and your experience and artistic knowledge may lead you to other methods. It is critical that after you are done with your project, you let it dry at least a week to give the paint time to develop it’s strength and hardness before exposing it directly to sun or moisture.
